The Nixon Collection

I designed and developed a website for Simon Nixon’s private art collection. The site presents works in a horizontal sequence, with each painting appearing alongside glimpses of its neighbors. The arrangement gives individual works space while keeping their relationship to the wider collection in view.

An illustrated lighting rail and a restrained typographic system establish a loose architectural setting for the works. Paintings are shown at a consistent relative scale, preserving their size relationships as they would appear on a gallery wall.

New encounters between works

The sequence is randomized each time the site loads, placing works in changing company. Different neighbors bring different qualities into focus: a shared color, a contrast in scale, or an unexpected relationship between subjects.

The design establishes a consistent setting while leaving the arrangement open to chance. Each visit offers another way to encounter the collection.
